Note: Don’t forget to vote in yesterday’s poll for State Senate (Ashby vs. Gamble). The results are running close. We’ll come up with an endorsement in that race tomorrow, and do take into account the polling here. At the end of this post, vote Yes or No on Proposition 1.

Journal & Press
I was an early adopter of early voting in Washington County. I much prefer to vote on my own time as opposed to a Tuesday, when my family and I usually have to work.
With early voting, we can all go together, on a weekend, maybe grab breakfast. We did yesterday beforehand at the exceptional Mama Bear’s Diner in Schuylerville. I plan to do a story on that place soon. They have a good story; and they seem to have a solid plan, attitude and business sense.
Anyway, we live not far from Route 4, the road that leads to Fort Edward.
I feel like we in the Battenkill Valley don’t think much about Fort Edward, even though it is relatively close. The road to it is desolate. Jane McCrae was killed nearby and there’s a roadside plaque denoting it.
But once you’re in Fort Edward, you can hit up some stores they don’t have near us. For example, Price Chopper/Market 32 is better than Hannaford. I Love NY Pizza is better than anything we have pizza-wise.
And you can vote early now through Sunday. Hours here.
The polling station is a former elementary school in Fort Edward on Burgoyne Ave. that’s kind of eerie. I guess the county uses some of it now for social services, as well.
Here are some photos.
Here’s how it works.
You park, head in, go into a former gym, election workers look you up and print a ballot right there for your district (I’m “Greenwich 5,” they said), you go to a private area, mark your candidates and then put the ballot into a machine that accepts it, if you filled it out correctly.
This year, it seems like a lot more people are early voting, and while in the past the crowd had appeared mostly Democratic (and the early vote counts corroborated that), this year it seems that people from all parties are voting early. It also seems like there are more poll workers and people acting as security. It’s a shame how untrusting people have become in our current political climate. As if we have to “stop the steal.” Disappointing.
One person with us, who wasn’t voting because he doesn’t live in the county, said that he was trying to determine who might be voting for Harris or Trump. “The couple with the Prius, Harris,” he said. “But I saw a couple of people with red hats, too.”
A good number of Republican signs were planted along the roadway outside the former Burgoyne Elementary.
Anyway, best to get it over with. Why make your Election Day even more stressful?
Halloween Parade Photos
Some scenes from yesterday’s annual Halloween Parade, courtesy of sponsors The Citizens Committee for Greenwich Youth and the Greenwich Youth Center. It looks like turnout and excitement was high. Suzanne Becker was MC. Judges were Amanda Hurley, Jim Nolan and Rulyn Graves. “Dumb and Dumber” was voted funniest. “Ringling Bros.” was voted Best in Show. Halloween itself is coming — you’ll see these kids again — stock up on treats for them!
And Now Vote For/Against Prop 1
Verbiage:
Amendment to Protect Against Unequal Treatment
This proposal would protect against unequal treatment based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity and pregnancy. It also protects against unequal treatment based on reproductive healthcare and autonomy.
A “YES” vote puts these protections in the New York State Constitution.
A “NO” vote leaves these protections out of the State Constitution.
Please vote — it’s anonymous.
We’re out of bandwidth. More tomorrow.
