Teen trap-shoot, SUNY Adirondack to offer non-credit courses in Greenwich, All-Scholar Teams, Weaving
Trap Shoot
On June 1, 2025, the Hudson Falls Fish and Game Club will have a very full parking lot. For the eighth year in a row, they will play host to the 2025 Foothills Challenge Trap Shoot. This is coordinated by the Southern Adirondack High School Clay Target Association.
This year’s Challenge features 230 competitors from 25 regional high schools. Student athletes compete in individual classes and teams compete for the coveted high score award. Between competitors, coaching and support staff, parents, schoolmates, and other spectators, there are expected to be over 600 people on the club grounds. Participating teams from Washington County include: Argyle, Fort Ann, Fort Edward, Granville, Hartford, Hudson Falls, and Whitehall.
Bob Henke, Chairman of the Washington County Board of Supervisors said, “I am exceptionally proud of our Washington County Youth Bureau for securing support from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services this year. High School trapshooting is by far the most inclusive sport available to our young people. All students compete as equals in all respects regardless of gender, physique, ableness, and in many cases even age. In addition to the individual skill building and mental discipline, competitive shooting instills a sense of responsibility, safety, and community spirit not found in other organized sports.”
George Gedney, Treasurer of the Hudson Falls Fish and Game Club, said, “We have always supported youth programs and never charge an entry fee or target fee to student athletes who compete in the event. The support from the Youth Bureau will greatly enhance the participation of all our competitors. We are very proud to be partnering with the Office of Children and Family Services and applaud their forward-thinking and inclusiveness. This is going to be a great event!”
Non-Credit Courses in Greenwich
SUNY Adirondack and Greenwich Central School District announced a new partnership to offer continuing education and lifelong learning opportunities in Washington County.
The new Continuing Education program is slated to begin in Fall 2025 and will offer classes that include arts and crafts, cooking, fitness and more. SUNY Adirondack is accepting course proposals from interested instructors, businesses and tour sites.
“We are so excited to partner with the school district to offer lifelong learning opportunities at their fantastic facilities in Washington County,” said Susan Corlew, director of Continuing Education & Workforce Innovation at SUNY Adirondack. “SUNY Adirondack is Washington County’s community college, so we are thrilled to have more opportunities to work with students of all ages through this new program.”
SUNY Adirondack has long offered personal enrichment courses through its Continuing Education program at its Queensbury campus and at tour sites throughout the region. In 2022, the college teamed with Saratoga Springs Central School District to extend offerings at SUNY Adirondack Saratoga and the school district’s buildings. The program has been wildly successful, garnering more than 2,000 participants in more than 100 classes since its inception.
“We are proud to partner with SUNY Adirondack to bring enriching educational experiences to the residents of Washington County,” said Jennifer Steimle, Ed.D., superintendent of Greenwich Central School District. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to lifelong learning and community engagement. By opening our doors to these continuing education opportunities, we are expanding access to valuable skills and experiences, and strengthening the connection between our schools and the broader community. We look forward to seeing this partnership grow and thrive.”
The course listings will be included in SUNY Adirondack’s always-anticipated Continuing Education catalog, which is printed in August and mailed to nearly 15,000 homes and is available online at https://www.sunyacc.edu/continuing-education-catalog.
