Hope you enjoyed our April Fool’s post yesterday. A few people asked if the content in it was real — no, no one — even Fox News — is paying $4.1M for a rural newspaper. We’d probably have to pay them to take it!
The hits on yesterday’s post were more than double the usual. It was the best prank in the region. Maybe we’ll do it again next year!

Hear’s a speling be knot too scip!!!
Schuylerville Community Theater (SCT) announced its scholastic rendition of the classically witty William Finn musical: “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!” This intellectual and comical performance is set to take place between April 4th-6th in Schuylerville Central School’s High School auditorium.
“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” follows a group of six unorthodox middle schoolers while they compete in a high-stakes and impossibly entertaining spelling bee. Through witty dialogue and heartfelt musical numbers, the show explores themes of competition, self-acceptance, and the awkwardness of adolescence.
As the spelling bee unfolds, unexpected moments arise, including audience participation and hilarious improvisation. The musical balances humor with touching character development, allowing each speller to shine while highlighting their insecurities and dreams. With its sharp wit, catchy songs, and relatable characters, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” delivers a charming and heartfelt look at the ups and downs of growing up.
Schuylerville Community Theater’s production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is directed by Jonathan Pate and this local production has a collection of gifted actors and actresses that are passionate about bringing this musical to life on stage. Kylie Tripp, Lauren Risley, Alex White, Katie Hawksby, Liam Reynolds, Tara Fox, Lauren Kerr, Annette Reitano and Anthony Jones have worked diligently to bring this production to life with the aid of a wonderful extended crew!
