The big story nationally has been about drone sightings everywhere. Or are they even drones? Some people go so far to even suggest they are alien objects. There’s so much conflicting information. The government is acting weird about it. It’s mayhem and misinformation all over again, similar to the early days of the Covid pandemic.
Because none of the logic lines up.
If it’s a foreign country’s work, why is it being allowed to go on? Why let a foreign entity have its way in our air space? Do we not have the capacity to disable drones? If that’s the case, what has our military been doing with the trillions of dollars they collect?
If it’s just nerds having fun, how do they afford such high-end aircraft? These drones are said to be as big as cars. What’s their motivation?
One popular theory on the Internet is that this is something called Project Blue Beam, an idea that has been around for a while that the government — or, maybe in our modern times where billionaires seem to have so much power, and technology, it’s them — fake an alien invasion to scare people into compliance.
Some people tie the conspiracy to the changing of power as Biden is about to leave office for Trump. The last transition was kind of crazy, so maybe people are expecting chaos again. Partisans say it’s either the Democrats trying to stymie Trump, perhaps by declaring martial law to “fight” the drones, or it’s Republicans trying to set up Trump to be a hero upon his inauguration, when the drones will suddenly disappear, thanks to him. While it seems both parties’ mainstream pols are decrying the drones, some conspiracy theorists believe there’s a shadow government that operates beyond the law.
Some suggest that the drones are from a potential military contractor hoping to get the government to allocate more money to drone technology, thus enriching their shareholders.
There’s a theory that the drones actually belong to the USA — with an agency that can operate without transparency — and they are scanning for a potential nuclear weapon that was smuggled into the USA, as some Ukraine nukes are allegedly unaccounted for with the chaos happening there. They are not alerting the public as not to elicit mass panic. Perhaps they see how people acted during the early days of Covid and don’t want to replicate the hysteria.
Of course, we’ve heard these stories before.
The TV show “24” was about a smuggled suitcase nuclear weapon that was set to blow up a US city.
“War of the Worlds” saw alien pods invade New Jersey, where most of the drone sightings now happen to be.
I’m hoping this is just some Hollywood gimmick to promote a movie that’s about to come out. Maybe it will be called “The Day of the Drones.”
One good thing is — people claim to hate the media; many say it’s in bed with the Democrats — but with this story, the media seems to be getting a lot of good non-partisan cred; a story that seems to have the establishment so flummoxed. This may be a good topic for the media to show its independence.
And Now for the Comics
Anyway, I’m finishing up layout on the print edition — it’s very tedious work, by the way! If you have a talent for layout in Adobe InDesign and would like to volunteer to help out with that, let me know.
I have a feeling that print layout is going to be a lost art very soon.
Let me leave you with a “Gasoline Alley” comic by Jim Scancarelli. They are a serial comic, so often don’t make sense as a standalone, but I think this one works by itself:
And that’s all folks — for today. More tomorrow.
