Journal & Press
Happy Friday — this will be our last newsletter until Monday. We’re going to take weekends off for now. Maybe if we get more paid subscribers to either this newsletter or the print edition, we will up production even more.
Speaking of the print edition, I just uploaded this to the printing plant and will pick it up in the morning and get it to the Greenwich Post Office in time to go out Saturday.
Of course, making a print paper isn’t lightning fast — but you’re going to get 48 color pages in your mailbox soon. You can’t beat that.
I’m not sure people realize that this is the realest paper in our region at this point. Meaning, the 48 pages of content are quite original. Sure, we put in the press releases that are sent us, but even those are curated and enhanced.
Anyway, here are some photos that will be in this edition…
Greenwich Library stacks. As the cover blurb above says, they are attempting to change their funding mechanism. I forgot when I took this photo.
Cole Burgess is going to the Cincinnati Bengals. He thanks the community for its overwhelming support. This is an infographic I made about his athletic prowess.
Journal & Press royalty Culver Tefft tells us about the creation of Whipple City Days, as its cancellation this year has been a hot topic around town. Here’s a photo I took in a recent year, which kind of demonstrates its decline.
I got a tour of the upcoming CLUTCH General Store, opening on Main St. June 1 and run by the Graves family. I felt the ceilings and light work were incredible. They were still finishing the lower half of the room, so I didn’t photograph that. The historic building reno will impress you. I think they have a solid business plan.
I sat down with highly decorated veteran and former Greenwich mayor Louis Leone, 88, at Dunkin Donuts recently (nothing better was open in town that morning — please, CLUTCH, open soon!). He’s going to be Grand Marshal of the upcoming Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by the VFW. Married nearly 67 years! Great guy!
And here are some photos I also took recently, that won’t be in the paper (not yet, anyway):
I wonder how these things still exist. I guess one can say why do newspapers still exist, but I’d argue at least a newspaper is a unique experience. All of the movies from this device can be easily streamed. Redbox needs an exit strategy — I say fill these full of CDs and DVDs of local bands, audiobook authors, podcasters, comedians, etc.; for purchase, not rent. I’d rather support local artists than yet another “Madea” movie!
I know we see the Amish a lot in Washington County, but this Amish buggy was parked at Byron’s in Schuylerville. Hopefully they didn’t cross that crazy narrow Northumberland Bridge.
Speaking of bridges, this is my favorite one that connects Washington to Saratoga County. It’s the historic Dix Bridge that was restored about a decade ago and now is a great place for Senior Portraits. One of my dogs is pictured. We’re heading back into the hamlet of Clarks Mills from Hudson Crossing Bark … er, I mean, Park.
Anyway, that’s my camera roll.
Have a great weekend!
