Tonight’s the Big Game; 7 p.m., Greenwich High School
If we were going to get alliterative on you, we’d call the game the Battle of the Battenkill Bulldozers, two teams who have blown out their gridiron opponents by astronomical amounts.
Cambridge-Salem visits Greenwich tonight for a game that might essentially will decide the league title. (Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton also has a great team.)
The theme of the game is “blackout,” boosters say.
We’ll grab photos and get you the results in tomorrow’s edition.
Seen at Wallie’s Last Night
A coven of local witches — most of them behind the revival of Greenwich CSD’s boostering Cauldron Club — were seen in more mortal light at a bustling Wallie’s on Friday night.
One of the organizers of last night’s gathering Lacey Timmons (right, with co-organizer Emily Miller) said it was a way for the group to “embrace their witchy-ness.”
They say they may appear at the big game tonight to perhaps cast spells for their preferred team.
Traffic Jams, Sidewalks — Mayor’s Response
We’ve been noticing some relatively minor traffic delays and upended sidewalks in Greenwich of late, so asked Mayor Amanda Hurley about it. Her response:
The work currently happening on Main Street and the recent work on the village streets are two separate projects, both part of the larger water project we’ve been working on. While these are distinct efforts, they are both essential for improving our village’s infrastructure. As with any construction, timelines can shift, but we expect the Main Street work to continue through Thanksgiving. If there are delays due to underground utilities, the team may need to return in the spring to finish laying the pipe. Either way, they will return in the spring to handle final touches like seeding grass.
For the sidewalks, I want to reassure everyone that they will not be left in dirt over the winter. Sometime in November, the contractors will put down a hard surface, such as asphalt, to ensure they are safe and accessible during the colder months.
Crews are working Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. I encourage locals to seek alternate routes if possible, especially with lane closures between Cottage Street and Big Lots over the next few weeks.
Salem Press Is Out
For those who don’t want to pay the $2 in Greenwich for The Greenwich Journal, you can get some of the same content for “free” if you drive out to Salem and grab one of these. This box is outside the wonderfully revived Jacko’s.
Of course, the drive to Salem and back is about $2 worth of gas, so figure that in.
